Martina Marti

Martina Marti was born in Switzerland in 1977. After studying Drama and Theatre Studies in Canterbury and Paris, she did an MBA focusing on Arts Management. She worked for two years as a festival producer and dramaturg at the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen in Germany. In 2006, she moved to Finland where she worked as project manager and international exchange coordinator for the Finnish Theatre Information Centre. Today she works as a translator of plays and freelance theatre director; her productions have been invited to international festivals in Finland and Germany. She is a member of the Advisory Boards of IETM and the Baltic Circle Festival. She's been on the Board of On-The-Move.org since 2007 and was elected President in 2010.

I'm thinking of all those who keep saying that we need to talk "their" language, the language of economists, that we need to measure the "impact of culture" to justify "investment" in it. And I'm starting to think that maybe the "we" who feel the need to talk like that, don't do it because they have to but because they don't have any other vocabulary, because it's difficult to unleash this creativity, to be different, to behave oddly, because it's hard work to imagine something else.
